PRI Scientific Collections
Please add the name of the collection you are donating to in the Additional Instructions box (next page).

At PRI, our science extends beyond the laboratory. We help decision-makers at the community, state, and national levels to preserve and manage our precious cultural and natural resources. When you contribute to PRI, you share in our mission.

Now, more than ever before, your financial support is critical. With falling state funding, supplemental funding is needed to support our research, extensive collections, field stations, and services.

Your donation to PRI or to one of the five state scientific surveys helps fund the science today that addresses some of the toughest challenges in preserving our resources for tomorrow.

You can donate online by clicking the button to the right, or mail your check payable to UIF/INRS #336096 to:

Support PRI's archaeological, biological, and geological collections

Over the past 150 years, the Prairie Research Institute has gathered some of the premier archaeological, biological, and geological research collections in North America. These collections include rare and irreplaceable human artifacts, fossils, subsurface geological samples, and biological specimens (including amphibians, reptiles, birds, fish, insects, mammals, annelids, crustaceans, and mollusks).

  • With more than 9 million specimens, the natural history collections represent the most complete documentation of Illinois' flora and fauna. Included are more than 29,000 “type specimens,” which serve as the exemplars to identify species.
  • Geological cores and samples support research on mineral and fossil fuel resources, groundwater resources, and hazard mitigation.
  • Archaeological specimens have been collected from more than 3,000 sites in Illinois, including from the UNESCO World Heritage Cahokia site and the Hopewell Culture sites in the Illinois River Valley.

You donation will help PRI preserve, curate, learn from, and share these valuable collections.

Thank you for your donation!
